My Journey With Massage - Jennifer Carr

Ten years ago I never would have guessed I'd become a Massage Therapist. I was working as a Paralegal and Executive Assistant for a large company in Los Angeles, doing the corporate cubicle thing, getting burned out and bored. Then, a variety of things happened in my life at that time that caused me a great deal of stress. As I began to heal myself and recover from the situation, I realized that I was not alone- a lot of other people in the world were also dealing with a lot of stress. During this time, I discovered that massage therapy was having a tremendously positive impact on me and I became curious to learn more about it. You could say that in the process of my healing, I wanted a "project", something new to learn to help with personal growth. I ending up enrolling in massage school and, honestly, it was one of the best things I ever did for myself! For me, learning massage was more than learning about anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, or deep tissue techniques. For me, learning about massage was about becoming more deeply aware of human connection, and the connection between mind and body. By learning to support others in their wellness journey, I learned how to heal myself. A door opened for me to a whole new way to view and experience the world and a whole new way to how I could be a contributing member of that world.

I see my massage practice as a way of helping clients "wake up" to their own bodies. It is my view that the tension we feel in the body is directly connected to the tension in our minds. In order to be fully well we have to nurture and heal the whole person. I also discovered the powerful benefit of essential oils, and I love seeing the exceptional way the integration of these two modalities assist clients. I see massage as a vital part of an individual's wellness program, as important as eating well and exercising regularly. I love assisting people on their journey towards whole person wellness.
